Thursday, February 9th, 2012 | Legal | No Comments
The rights of citizens include due protection from harm at the hands of others. Even if the harm is minor, the law of the state must protect its citizens. Every country has framed its own laws in this regard. If somebody causes someone else purposeful injury on the body, he is guilty of simple assault. He may cause the injury by means of any weapon or by various body parts.
In such case it is a crime and he can be punished by a penalty up to five hundred dollars. He can be jailed for six months also. Both these punishments can be imposed on him if the court so desires. The punishment will be graver in case the assaulter injures some particular people. Such people include principal, teacher, other instructional personnel, school bus driver, judge, law enforcement officer, court administrator, law enforcement officer etc. If these persons are assaulted, the punishment will be a maximum of one thousand dollars and five years of imprisonment or both.
